The time has come for your child to enter the world of Kindergarten and officially become part of the Sacred Heart School family! This is such a momentous milestone for children, a year full of growth in all aspects of their life: academically, socially, physically, and faithfully. Our year in Kindergarten will prove to be very memorable. So many exciting adventures are ahead for all of us!
I would like to let you know a little bit about myself, as we start this journey together. My name is Maggi Young and I am a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Dowling Catholic High School. While attending Dowling, I met my husband, Mike. We both attended the University of Northern Iowa and were married while finishing up our degrees. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics.
After graduating, our first child was born, Maxwell. He is a Senior at Dowling Catholic High School. Once I completed student teaching, my husband and I decided that I would stay home with our children. We went on to have three more kids: Molli (16, junior), who also attends Dowling, Miley (13, 8th grade), and Mason (11, 5th grade), who attend Sacred Heart! Shortly after Molli was born, I decided to start an in-home childcare business and did that until the summer of 2015. During that summer, I began taking courses to get my Reading Endorsement. That was very helpful in preparing me for teaching these young students the fundamentals of literacy. Just this past summer, I was able to complete my endorsement through Drake University.
In the classroom we have two wonderful, associates, Ali Hinch and Kathleen Klein. This will be their first year in the classroom with me. I look forward to working with both of them and promoting the best learning environment possible for your child!
The Kindergarten year is an important year for students, as they begin to learn how to work in a classroom and school setting. There is a lot of growth academically as well, especially in reading. I believe we should give every young child opportunities to be successful, as it helps build their confidence and makes learning more meaningful and fun.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am truly looking forward to meeting you and your children, and getting to know them as they develop as learners, readers, and friends!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maggi Young
